Project LifeSaver:

A Partnership to help those that Wander!

The Local Project Lifesaver Program was established in January of 2008, as a joint partnership between the Pickaway County Commission on Aging and the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. Through the efforts of Sue Frey, Executive Director of the Pickaway County Senior Center and supported by Sheriff Dwight E. Radcliff a partnership was established.

Project Lifesaver is a rapid response program designed to track and locate lost individuals. This program is designed specifically for families living with Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down Syndrome, Dementia, and other related disorders.

In April of 2008 funding was made possible through a special grant provided by the Central Ohio Area on Aging. This grant provided equipment and training necessary to make the program a reality. Once this funding was received the equipment was ordered and training was scheduled with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, who conducts the official training for Project Lifesaver International.

In August of 2008 members of the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Robert Radcliff, Sgt. James Brown, Det. Jonathon Strawser and Dep. Dale Wolfe, Emergency Management Director James Deal and Circleville Fire Department Chief Timothy Teener received extensive training on the use of the Project Lifesaver equipment. This training was conducted at the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and locations throughout the county.

In January of 2009 a campaign to make the community aware of the new program was conducted through various speaking engagements, news articles and public meetings at the Senior Center.

In March of 2009 the first client was placed on the Local Project Lifesaver Program. There are currently five active clients, suffering from Alzheimer’s to Autism.

Since establishing the program in 2008, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office has made monthly visits to those clients and family members. The visits ensure the proper working order of the equipment, the condition of the client and to offer support for the family members.
