TITLE OF POSITION: “Maintenance Worker”

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, and to read and write simple sentences; 100 hours’ training in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair, etc.) and use of associated hand and power tools/equipment, or one (1) month’s experience; or equivalent.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess valid Ohio driver’s license. Must obtain Corrections Officer certification (routine contact) within one (1) year of date of hire.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Motor vehicle, computer, printer, telephone, copy machine, intercom system, two-way radio, power and hand tools, tractor, mowers, weed eater, refrigeration units, heating and cooling units, snow removal equipment, gates, shredder, water softener, plumbing equipment, electric doors, control panels, ladders, cleaning equipment, painting materials, electronic lifts.

DUTIES: This position description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the position incumbent.

EESENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: 1.) Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled maintenance tasks in and around correctional building and grounds to maintain and/or repair county facilities and property; performs routine and scheduled maintenance checks and minor repairs of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, heating and cooling equipment and systems; records services performed; notifies supervisor of maintenance problems, equipment or system malfunctioning, and needed repairs; changes filters, checks fluids, and adjusts controls and gauges of equipment. 2.) Performs special building maintenance and repair projects (e.g., operates and/or utilizes building maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and other materials to build forms and partitions or paint walls and ceilings; installs or repairs windows and doors; installs light fixtures and electrical outlets, and replaces worn wires; performs routine carpentry and masonry work; transports equipment and tools to work area, etc.). 3.) Performs ground maintenance (e.g., operates tractor and light accessory equipment to mow grass, remove snow, rake leaves, pull weeds, and trim trees and bushes; removes ice from sidewalks and spreads salt; operates equipment and uses garden tools to improve and maintain appearance of grounds; etc.). 4.) Utilizes cleaning equipment and performs interior custodial duties (e.g., sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; washes walls and windows; unclogs drains; empties trash containers; cleans fixtures; etc.). 5.) Performs other related duties as required or assigned (e.g., maintains equipment inventory, orders supplies, completes forms, enters and retrieves information regarding work in computer, moves office furniture, locks and unlocks offices within complex, checks doors and locks for proper function and security, makes parts run, etc.); attends staff meetings and training sessions as assigned. 6.) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. 7.) Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. 8.) Performs other related duties as assigned. 9.) Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties. 10.) Works overtime as necessary.
