The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting results for Communications Officer.  The department is building an eligibility list for current and future positions.

Salary Information:  Starting rate of pay $13.72 per hour with first step increase after 12 months.

Department Information:  The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is currently comprised of 95 total personnel assigned to the Jail, Patrol, Communications, Detective and Administrative Divisions of the office.

City Information:  Pickaway County is located in southern Ohio immediately south of Franklin County and Columbus.  The county is comprised of 506.55 square miles and maintains 827.62 miles of roadways including  one Interstate, three U.S. highways, and eleven state highways.  The county population is approximately 56,000. The county consists of one city, Circleville (county seat) which maintains a full time police force, nine villages, three of which maintain full or part time law enforcement personnel.  Circleville is home to the world famous Pumpkin Show hosted each October.  There are two state parks within the county A.W. Marion and Deer Creek, one metro park, Slate Run and one ODNR nature preserve, Stages Pond.

Necessary Certifications: Must be able to obtain a LEADS certification within 6 months of hire.

General Statement of Duties: The Communications officer is responsible for dispatching sheriff office, village police, fire and emergency medical service personnel via a county–wide 800 MHz radio system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Communicates accurate and timely information via radio and/or telephone.
• Dispatches public safety services via Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
• Operates telephone systems, multi-line 911 system,  as well as Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD).
• Monitors the status, location, availability and communication of all public safety personnel.
• Completion of logs and records.
• Utilizes LEADS, Accuglobe and computerized criminal history (CCH).
• Provides non-emergency and emergency information to law enforcement personnel and public.
