THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY… WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TODAY. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

* TIMING… BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS WILL CONTINUE TO FILTER INTO THE REGION ON STRONG WEST WINDS.

* WINDS… WEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES… BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES WILL FALL THROUGH THE SINGLE DIGITS TODAY. THE COLDEST VALUES OF 10 BELOW TO 15 BELOW WILL OCCUR TONIGHT.

* WIND CHILL READINGS… DANGEROUS WIND CHILL READINGS WILL BE IN THE 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO RANGE TODAY… FALLING AS LOW AS 25 TO 35 BELOW ZERO TONIGHT. WIND CHILLS WILL BE IN THE 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO RANGE TUESDAY AFTERNOON… FALLING TO 25 TO 35 BELOW ZERO TUESDAY NIGHT.

* HAZARD TYPES… DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILL READINGS.

* IMPACTS… TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO BLOWING SNOW AND RE-FREEZING ON UNTREATED ROADS. FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA CAN OCCUR WITH EXPOSURE TO THE BITTER COLD.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
